DENTAL IMPLANTS
Modern restorative dentistry
At Sundial Dental, we use the latest diagnostic and treatment technology to provide strong, long lasting dental implants.
If you feel embarrassed or uncomfortable about missing teeth, gaps or dentures that don’t fit, or if you are unable to chew properly, dental implants may be the solution.
Dental implants act as artificial tooth roots that are submerged into the jawbone, allowing one or more missing teeth to be replaced. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures. They are so well designed that they mimic the look and feel of natural teeth. Implants are usually made of a synthetic yet biocompatible material like metal or ceramic.
Surgery is necessary to prepare the area for an implant and place the implant in the mouth. Through a process called ‘osseointegration’, the bone grows to the implant and bonds to it, making it very strong. In some cases, metal posts are inserted into the implant during a follow-up procedure to connect the tooth. Implant surgery involves anaesthesia and, if necessary, antibiotics following the procedure.
For a successful implant to take hold, a patient must have proper bone density and a strong immune system. Like any restoration, implants require diligent oral hygiene and proper care to ensure they last a long time.

Replacing Missing Teeth
Your teeth affect your whole body. When they’re healthy, you’re healthier too. A missing tooth can affect your bite, speech and eating choices. As you rely more on your remaining teeth, you increase the chance they will wear out prematurely, or be damaged or lost. You may also experience headaches and/or jaw pain.
Who would want their appearance and health to deteriorate? That’s the natural consequence of missing teeth – the jaw literally melts away. Generally, people will lose 25% of their supporting jaw bone structure within the first year after tooth loss. Dental implants are more easily placed when teeth are first extracted because bone replacement becomes more complex as time passes.
The great news? Implants act just like your natural teeth. They safeguard and preserve your bone structure, oral health and appearance. Your dentist and the implant surgeon will provide you with options so that you can make the most informed decision concerning tooth replacement.
Tooth replacement options
You can select from a number of different options to replace your missing teeth – from temporary to long-lasting solutions.
A good candidate is anyone missing one or more teeth, or who is unhappy with their dentures. Age is not a factor. However, smoking, diseases such as diabetes, and radiation therapy to the area, have been shown to lower the success rate of implant placement. X-rays of your jaw will be taken to evaluate whether they will accommodate implants. Detailed x-rays may also be required to determine if other tests or procedures are needed to place implants properly.

Sundial Dental is proud to introduce a NEW diagnostic tool : The Sirona™ 3D CT SCAN , an ultra-low dose radiation 3D imaging machine.
The Sirona™ 3D CT SCAN Imaging System provides a radiation dosage lower than that of 2D imaging units, while at the same time providing consistently very detailed, high-resolution, 3D images of the mouth, jaw and surrounding areas – including bone density, blood vessels, and nerves.
This powerful low dose diagnostic technology is useful in many aspects of dental care, including general dentistry, periodontics, reconstructive dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and oral surgery. The Sirona™ 3D CT SCAN system displays aspects of your oral anatomy that normal x-rays can’t show, and that allows our dentists at Sundial Dental to more accurately make a diagnosis and to create a more effective treatment plan. This ultra-low dose technology is also useful in detecting early signs of oral health problems, so that they can be addressed before becoming serious.
At Sundial Dental, we use this technology to safely place implants with full guidance, diagnose for oral diseases, and image the teeth of children or patients who may gang and who may otherwise struggle with traditional x-rays.
